What's Hot

  • Combines traditional safari lodge style architecture and design with modern twists in an attractive and unique way – the signature painted mural headboards in the luxurious suites are an example of something really different from what you’ll find at other lodges
  • Enjoy wandering around the (fenced) peaceful indigenous gardens with their gorgeous fever trees and collection of rare cycads. No doubt you’ll find a secluded spot to just chill, perhaps enjoying lounging in the swinging chair or even a delicious picnic on the shaded lawns whilst watching the myriad birds flitting about
  • Enjoy a luxurious soak in your decadent standalone tub or, for something altogether more invigorating, an open-air shower on your private deck overlooking the dry riverbed!
  • Game drives in the Klaserie are typically less rushed affairs due to the absence of many other vehicles, so you can often enjoy extended time at special sightings (which being open to the free roaming herds of the Kruger is something the Klaserie is famous for) Back at the lodge there’s a busy waterhole adjacent to the lodge where you can watch the animals coming through to satisfy their thirst both day and night (it’s floodlit)
  • Get inspired watching the chef whip up some typically delicious dishes in the open kitchen – maybe you’ll even get motivated to get involved yourself!

What's Not

  • Definitely on the more elegant and traditional side of the game lodge styling spectrum, so if you’re attracted to ultra-contemporary, more flashy lodges then Camp George probably isn’t for you
  • Having lower vehicle densities than in most of the other private game lodges bordering the Kruger does have the negative aspect that there are consequently less eyes out on drive radio-ing in sightings, so you may work harder for your sightings too
  • The swimming pool area is a bit meh – we prefer something a bit more attractively integrated into the main lodge public areas and with better views

Simbavati Camp George

Simbavati Camp Georgethe unique signature element of the suites at Camp George has to be the beautiful and unique hand-painted wall mural headboards, each featuring different animals or birds, which adds a unique touch of style to the room

Originally a family-owned private use lodge, Camp George has been beautifully renovated and updated and now falls under the well-known Simbavati umbrella offering a range of lodges in the adjoining Timbavati and Klaserie reserves. Simbavati Camp George is one of the lodges that lies in the Klaserie, a 60 000-hectare Big 5 reserve which is open to the Kruger Park, bringing with it the potential for unforgettable game viewing experiences only possible with the large free roaming herds of large game like elephant and buffalo that call the Kruger home.

In many ways Camp George is the quintessential classic safari escape, its eight luxury suites set alongside a dry riverbed and within (fenced) lush indigenous gardens. The renovation has realised an elegant safari lodge exhibiting the perfect mix of authentic traditional safari architectural design and style with a modern twist.  The art-filled living areas lead out to expansive terraces, beyond which lies the mature indigenous garden. Here you can relax and enjoy the serenity brought on by sight of the huge fever and baobab trees (there’s also a collection of rare cycads), perhaps reading a book in the swing chair or just watching the game quietly arriving at the adjacent flood-lit waterhole where animals come to drink throughout the day and night.

Otherwise, you can lounge around the expansive swimming pool, enjoy a soothing massage at the Spa or on your private deck, or perhaps indulge in a picnic on the shaded lawns under the beautiful, almost luminous fever trees. Talking of meals, a highlight at Camp George is to get involved watching the chef rustle up some typically delicious meals on the open kitchen’s island! Every couple of nights you’ll enjoy hearty dinners served under the stars around the welcoming open log fire in the lodge’s atmospheric lantern-lit boma.

There are 8 luxury suites, each with their own private decks, all overlooking the dry riverbed. The unique signature element of the suites at Camp George has to be the beautiful and unique hand-painted wall mural headboards, each featuring different animals or birds, which adds a unique touch of style to the room. Each of the air-conditioned suites has a king-sized bed and are elegantly furnished with beautiful indigenous wood furniture. The large and indulgent bathroom features a standalone bath, indoor and outdoor showers and separate toilet. For families traveling together there are 2 inter-leading units available – so whether you’re looking for romance or a family holiday, Camp George has you covered!

Obviously the focus here is on the game experience and you can certainly immerse yourself in nature at Camp George with game drives, guided bush walks and night drives all on offer in the exclusive Klaserie reserve, known for its magnificent range of animals including leopard, elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo, hippo, wild dog and sightings of the rare Sharpe's Grysbok. The Klaserie is also different to most of the other private reserves lying along the western border of the Kruger Park in that there is a much lower number of commercial lodges and hence game drive vehicles visible on game drives – the result is a more relaxed and easy going pace where it’s often possible to take your time at rewarding sightings as you’re not forced to make way for loads of other vehicles queuing to take their turn.
