The main Kuname lodge is a firm favourite of ours for delivering a wonderfully intimate and personal safari experience at a reasonable price. Whilst the rooms are comfortable rather than luxurious, the emphasis at Kuname is on the warmth of the hospitality and of course, the game viewing experience. But there’s just one problem – Kuname lodge doesn’t accept children under 12, so isn’t an option for families wanting to enjoy a holiday in the bush together. Never fear though, as there is a solution if you’re travelling with kids – the Noka House!
Noka House at Kuname is located literally next to the main Kuname lodge with just a short stroll separating the two. Also located overlooking the Kuvjename river, Noka House consists of 3 bedrooms ideally suited to sleeping 2 adult couples and 2 kids (there are 2 downstairs bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and the third is an upstairs loft containing 2 single beds on a mezzanine level above the lounge which is perfect for the kids)
As in the main lodge, the rooms here are comfortable and homely rather than exhibiting designer-style luxury. That approach is also evident in the lounge area with its comfy sofas just inviting you to sprawl out and relax. Outside you have your own shaded deck with a small fire-pit area just below, along with a small pool perfect for cooling off in the heat of summer. Best of all for your parental peace of mind, the entire lawned garden is fenced off so the kids can explore and play to their heart’s content without you having to worry!
The beauty of having your own safari house is that everything is pretty much dedicated to satisfying your specific needs. The good news is that guests at Noka House enjoy the same warm and friendly management, personal service and exceptional food that clients staying at Kuname lodge consistently rave about!
The game viewing experience in the Karongwe reserve consistently manages to punch above its weight. Whilst the reserve is relatively small, the presence of 4 rivers flowing through the reserve means higher animal carrying capacity and we enjoyed excellent sightings during our stay – including memorable cheetah and leopard sightings!
