The Barefoot Travel Group was founded by Rosie and Derek Palframan in 2006 - after more than 20 years in senior management roles across the travel industry, they saw the opportunity to open specialist niche operators that did not try to sell every destination on the planet.

Instead, the Barefoot Travel Group is built around having dedicated teams of experts for distinct destinations. Barefoot Breaks focuses on chic Indian Ocean beach lodges, Just Mauritius is a pure Mauritius holiday specialist, and Bushscapes specialises solely in South African game lodges.

Bushscapes are unashamed specialists. Rather than being all-rounders knowing "a little about a lot" of destinations, we'd instead prefer to be specialists who know "a lot about a little" – we're proud to be game lodge experts and that's all, able to give customers the benefit of our in-depth knowledge of reserves and lodges that we are personally passionate about!

We Know Because We Go

At Bushscapes we believe that it's absolutely vital that our consultants know exactly what they are talking about – so every year we send our consultants off for a couple of weeks to personally see the lodges that they are selling.

They get to sleep in the same beds, enjoy sundowners out on game drives with the same rangers and trackers that you as clients will interact with, get to see the wildlife on offer in the different reserves and enjoy those same atmospheric boma dinners under the stars! And that personal knowledge and experience in turn then informs the expert advice that they are able to give you.

That way they can tell you how the rooms are laid out, what the game viewing is like, who the lodge suits, and when they believe genuinely strong value exists.

The game drive experience

How knowledgeable are the rangers, how many guests per vehicle, do they go off-road? Going on drives ourselves means we're talking from first-hand experience.
