What's Hot

  • Most of the fully serviced exclusive-use houses available to safari lovers tend to be extremely expensive – the Kuname Manor House delivers on the essential elements that makes having your own place such an attractive proposition (albeit at a slightly less luxurious level than these prestige options) but at a much more reasonable price
  • The kids can explore and play in the safety of the fenced garden or splash about in the pool without you having to stress about them disturbing other guests – instead you can simply relax, perhaps on the outside deck overlooking the river below spotting game or reading a book
  • There’s little to beat sitting under the stars around the fire-pit (with an ice-cold drink in hand of course!) exchanging stories with your loved ones about the highlights of the day you’ve just experienced together!
  • Guests consistently rave about the wonderfully warm hospitality of the Kuname management and staff – they really go out of their way to ensure you feel at home and enjoy your stay
  • You have the use of your own dedicated game drive vehicle and ranger and tracker team – again you don’t have to worry about the kids disturbing other guests but instead can sit back and enjoy your own exclusive game drive!

What's Not

  • Whilst being right next door, the views over the river aren’t as good at the Manor House as those enjoyed by guests staying at the main Kuname lodge
  • Kuname’s Manor House doesn’t boast the over-the-top luxury of many of the other full service exclusive-use safari houses – then again it costs a small fraction of their prices too!
  • Remember that the third bedroom is an open loft style space on a mezzanine level above the lounge and not en-suite – the kids will no doubt love it but it’s probably not suited to an adult couple

The main Kuname lodge is a firm favourite of ours for delivering a wonderfully intimate and personal safari experience at a reasonable price. Whilst the rooms are comfortable rather than luxurious, the emphasis at Kuname is on the warmth of the hospitality and of course, the game viewing experience. But there’s just one problem – Kuname lodge doesn’t accept children under 12, so isn’t an option for families wanting to enjoy a holiday in the bush together. Never fear though as there is a solution if you’re travelling with kids – the Kuname Manor House!

The Manor House at Kuname is located literally next to the main Kuname lodge with just a short stroll separating the two. Also located overlooking the Kuvjename river, the Manor House consists of 3 bedrooms ideally suited to sleeping 2 adult couples and 2 kids (there are 2 downstairs bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and the third is an upstairs loft containing 2 single beds on a mezzanine level above the lounge which is perfect for the kids)

As in the main lodge, the rooms here are comfortable and homely rather than exhibiting designer-style luxury. That approach is also evident in the lounge area with its comfy sofas just inviting you to sprawl out and relax. Outside you have your own shaded deck with a small fire-pit area just below, along with a small pool perfect for cooling off in the heat of summer. Best of all for your parental peace of mind, the entire lawned garden is fenced off so the kids can explore and play to their heart’s content without you having to worry!

The beauty of having your own safari house is that everything is pretty much dedicated to satisfying your specific needs. You have your own game drive vehicle and ranger and tracker team and dine privately too. The good news is that guests at the Manor House enjoy the same warm and friendly management, personal service and exceptional food that clients staying at the main lodge consistently rave about!

The game viewing experience in the Karongwe reserve consistently manages to punch above its weight. Whilst the reserve is relatively small, the presence of 4 rivers flowing through the reserve means higher animal carrying capacity and we enjoyed excellent sightings during our stay – including memorable cheetah and leopard sightings!
